Netflix Adds George Clooney & John Krasinski’s Underrated Sports Movie Today

A forgotten sports movie directed by George Clooney is now on Netflix. This underrated sports film also stars A Quiet Place actor John Krasinski.

What George Clooney and John Krasinski movie is now streaming on Netflix?

Leatherheads is now available to stream on Netflix. Released in 2008, the film blends sports comedy and romantic comedy. George Clooney also served as director and played one of the co-leads alongside John Krasinski. Duncan Brantley and Rick Reilly were the writers.

This film is set in 1925 and follows the story of Dodge Connelly (George Clooney). He is a veteran professional football player trying to save his team struggling in the league. In an attempt to do so, he convinces a war hero and college football star, Carter Rutherford (John Krasinski), to join the team. Things get complicated when a journalist named Lexie Littleton (Renee Zellweger) arrives, creating a love triangle between the three.

Clooney is also known for directing The Ides of March, The Midnight Sky, The Tender Bar, The Boys in the Boat, and Good Night, and Good Luck. He recently starred in Noah Baumbach’s comedy-drama movie Jay Kelly as an aging Hollywood star with a midlife crisis. He also made his Broadway debut as Edward R. Murrow in the stage adaptation of Good Night, and Good Luck.

The other lead of Leatherheads, Krasinski, is currently directing the third installment of A Quiet Place. He also recently starred and co-wrote the 2026 action-thriller movie Jack Ryan: Ghost War, and stated that he would love to continue the story further.

Zellweger is best known for Jerry Maguire, One True Thing, and Nurse Betty. She was recently seen in the 2025 box-office hit Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy.

Other cast members include David de Vries, Rick Forrester, Malcolm Goodwin, Matt Bushell, Tim Griffin, Robert Baker, Lance Barber, Wayne Duvall, and Jason Drago. The movie was produced by Grant Heslove and Casey Silver, with executive producers including Barbara A. Hall, Robert F. Newmyer, Sydney Pollack, Jeffrey Silver, and Barry Teague.
