Luca Guadagnino’s OpenAI Artificial Movie Finds New Home After Amazon Exit

Luca Guadagnino‘s OpenAI movie Artificial may finally find a distribution home after Amazon‘s exit. The company withdrew from the project earlier this month following a $50 billion investment in Sam Altman‘s OpenAI.

Which company is interested in acquiring Luca Guadagnino’s Artificial movie?

It seems Neon may acquire the distribution rights of Luca Guadagnino’s OpenAI movie Artificial, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Currently, the negotiations are ongoing, and if the deal happens, it will end the wait of many who were curious to see who would eventually grab the distribution rights for the project.

A few weeks ago, reports emerged that Amazon was seeking another distributor for Artificial. The decision to drop the movie was made by the head of Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios, Mike Hopkins.

Although no official reason was given, several reports suggested that Guadagnino’s completed film had a darker tone than expected. After dropping the movie, Amazon released a statement that read, “We believe that Artificial will be better served if it were released by a different studio and are working closely with the filmmaking team to find the film a new home.”

A few days back, Focus Features, Warner Bros.’ Clockwork division, Netflix, and A24 also skipped a chance to acquire Artificial. Recently, Mubi was reportedly in the race to take it, but now it appears Neon now appears to be the frontrunner if a deal is finalized.

Speaking more of Artificial, it features Hollywood star Andrew Garfield as OpenAI co-founder and CEO Sam Altman. Ike Barinholtz will portray Elon Musk, one of the company’s co-founders. The ensemble cast also includes Mark Rylance, Yura Borisov, Monica Barbaro, Billie Lourd, Jason Schwartzman, Cooper Koch, and Cooper Hoffman.

Besides the OpenAI angle, the movie is also said to portray Elon Musk as a dictator. Artificial has yet to receive an official release date window.
