Donald Trump’s recent claim about his approval rating is in stark contrast to official survey results. The president made the eyebrow-raising remark in an impassioned Truth Social post earlier this week.
Donald Trump boasts about his poll numbers
Donald Trump made a fiery Truth Social post at at 6.47 a.m. Monday, claiming that his approval rating has been soaring. The claim directly contradicts the actual poll numbers analyzed by The New York Times.
“Highest Poll Numbers Ever,” Trump declared in the post, adding, “Even Higher than Election Day, November 5th.” The president then stated, “This despite the fact that, IRAN WILL NOT HAVE A NUCLEAR WEAPON.”
However, according to poll data analyzed by The New York Times, Trump’s current average approval rating has dropped to just 38%, while his disapproval rating is at 58%, for a net of -21.
Meanwhile, other surveys conducted by NPR, PBS News, and Marist between June 8 and 11 have found that Trump’s approval rating has fallen to 36, the lowest in his second term. Trump did not specify which survey he referred to on Monday.
Earlier this month, a survey by the Pew Research Center found a decline in Trump’s popularity across all 10 European countries. The data concluded that a majority of the nations lack confidence in the U.S. president “to do the right thing regarding world affairs.”
The poll also found that, across all European countries, a median of 85% disapprove of Trump’s handling of major foreign policy issues. These range from tariffs and the president’s Greenland ambitions to the ongoing Iran war and the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
Most recently, Trump announced that the U.S. and Iran will hold new peace talks following the collapse of previous peace deals. In a Truth Social post on Monday, the president declared, “IRAN HAS REQUESTED A MEETING. IT WILL TAKE PLACE TOMORROW IN DOHA!”
