Prime Video has dropped the teaser trailer for The Love Hypothesis, which starts streaming on September 23, 2026. The story follows a PhD student and her professor as they enter a fake relationship to test their theories about love.

The footage, initially shown as a quick montage through older lenses, sees Lili Reinhart’s Olive Smith and Tom Bateman’s Dr. Adam Carlsen performing some science experiments and growing closer with each other.

This portion of the clip is accompanied by a voiceover explaining the science behind the connection. It states, “The universe is built on trying to find order through connection. Molecules stay in motion, vibrating and colliding until they find a match. And when they do, something miraculous happens. They form a bond.”

The teaser then cuts to Smith telling her friend that she is “seeing someone.” When the latter asks if it’s a therapist, the former replies, “No, like a human man.”

Olive is next seen spontaneously kissing Dr. Carlsen as her friend watches. After she leaves, the former quickly turns for a glance before apologizing to the latter, who grabs her ID card and reads out her name before throwing it back into her pocket.

Reinhart’s Olive tells her friend that she and Carlsen are “fake dating.” Subsequent scenes show the two becoming intimate as the former’s friends watch in surprise. The last part shows Carlsen informing Olive that he has to kiss her as their friends are seeing them from the balcony. He follows through as the group looks and gasps in shock, while the trailer narrator asks, “Isn’t science fun?”

The film is based on Ali Hazelwood’s novel of the same name, originally written as a fan-fiction about the “Reylo” ship between Rey and Kylo Ren from the Star Wars sequel trilogy. Published in 2021, it became a New York Times bestseller.

Claire Scanlon directed from Sarah Rothschild’s script. In addition to Reinhart and Bateman, the cast includes Rachel Marsh, Nicholas Duvernay, and Arty Froushan.
