President Donald Trump launched an attack on a female Fox News anchor over her immigration coverage. The president used Truth Social to target the broadcaster. He ended up misspelling a well-known word in the process.
Donald Trump calls out Shannon Bream in Truth Social rant
On Friday, Donald Trump posted a lengthy rant on Truth Social defending his immigration enforcement record and drawing comparisons to former President Barack Obama’s tenure. The post made several sweeping claims about his administration’s performance, but it was a direct dig at Fox News Sunday host Shannon Bream that caught people’s attention.
Trump argued his administration holds the highest average daily arrest rate by ICE and CBP. He also boasted about the highest 12-month removal total and the highest average daily catch and repatriation figures among any US president. He then turned his fire on Bream.
“So, when you hear these Anchors, Pundits, Dumocrats, and Communists, try to make the case that President Obama’s numbers are comparable to President Trump, it would be nice if people like ‘Milk Toast’ Shannon Bream, and others, would put up a little fight — Just a little,” Donald Trump wrote. “Thank you for your attention to this matter!”
Trump appeared to mean “milquetoast” — a word describing someone timid or unassertive — but instead wrote “milk toast,” suggesting an accidental mix-up with the breakfast item. The term milquetoast originates from Caspar Milquetoast, a meek comic strip character, and carries no connection to dairy or bread.
All in all, the attack on Bream fits a pattern the president has shown toward female journalists. In April, Trump lashed out at Fox News host Jessica Tarlov on Truth Social. Around the same time, he criticised Fox News as a network after a poll showed his approval rating at 41 percent. CNN anchor Kaitlan Collins has also continuously faced his criticism.
