The White House has denied reports saying President Donald Trump is using Eli Lilly’s experimental weight loss drug retatrutide through the FDA’s “compassionate use” program.
Reporter Lizzy Lawrence said the White House did not directly respond when asked whether Donald Trump was the person who requested early access to the drug.

Lawrence wrote on X, “Sources told STAT that the application drew interest from top health officials. Given the demographics and the peculiar nature of the application, I asked the WH if this patient was President Trump, who turned 80 a week ago. I did not get a direct answer.”
The White House’s rapid-response team reposted the message and exclaimed, “No, it wasn’t President Trump — and you people are truly sick and deranged.”
White House spokesperson Kush Desai clapped back at Lawrence with a post on X, claiming, “Because this has to be spelled out for @LizzyLaw_, who has proven herself to be an unserious gossip columnist, this application was not for the President.”
PEOPLE reported that anonymous sources provided more details to STAT about the case, revealing that a 79-year-old man requested early access to the experimental drug on June 23 and was granted approval through the FDA’s program. The application has attracted the attention of top health officials, who suggested that the person requesting access is well-connected.
The White House has maintained that the president is in “excellent health,” denying any rumors surrounding visible signs of health decline. Speculation has been fueled by financial disclosures showing that Donald Trump holds investments in Eli Lilly, the company developing retatrutide, according to The Guardian – a fact that is bound to raise questions about Trump’s usage.
