Prince William’s Wedding Request Left Senior Royal Aide ‘Petrified’

Prince William made one wedding request that still stands out to a trusted former aide. The Prince of Wales reportedly told Jamie Lowther-Pinkerton, “You’re running it,” before his 2011 ceremony to Kate Middleton.

The former senior royal aide later said the assignment left him “petrified.” His comments came in a new interview about royal service, William, Kate, and the ceremony. He also described why the couple impressed him years later.

A former senior aide said he was petrified after Prince William made a wedding request

As per The Times report dated June 22, 2026, Lowther-Pinkerton discussed his years around the Wales family. The SAS soldier served as a senior aide to William, Kate, and Prince Harry. He held the role from 2005 to 2013. He was also credited as a key figure during Prince William’s formative years. That trust carried into the 2011 ceremony. Lowther-Pinkerton said, “The wedding was great.” He added, “I was petrified because he had said to me early on, ‘You’re running it.’”

Meanwhile, the former courtier explained why the request felt so large. He compared it to “the closest I’ll ever get to a divisional command.” Still, he said the experts around him made it work. He said there were “all these brilliant experts.” He added, “you didn’t need to do anything.” Then, he said, “You just needed to set the parameters.” After that, he could “let people do what they were so bloody good at.”

The Times also asked Lowther-Pinkerton about William and Kate as spouses. He said Kate reminded him of his own family dynamic. Speaking about the Princess of Wales, he called her “a really cool woman.” Then, he added, “Amazing. He chose well.” Lowther-Pinkerton said, “I think they’ll be like my mum and dad.” He also said, “I think they’re great.” The former aide recalled seeing Kate in Suffolk in 2025. When she greeted him with a kiss, he said he “nearly headbutted her.” He added, “I didn’t know if I should be bowing.” Lowther-Pinkerton called it “so sweet of her.”
