Travis Kelce Had One Reason for Delaying NFL Retirement

Travis Kelce postponed his retirement for a specific reason. The Chiefs’ tight end celebrated returning to the team for his record 14th NFL season during a Tight End University appearance. Notably, Kelce co-founded Tight End University in 2021 with fellow NFL star George Kittle and the sportscaster Greg Olsen.

Travis Kelce shares why he didn’t retire from NFL

Travis Kelce explained why he didn’t retire from the NFL and why he gave his career another chance. Kelce sat down for a fun chat with Bussin’ With The Boys podcast co-hosts Will Compton and Taylor Lewan at the annual offseason training summit for Tight End University at Vanderbilt University’s FirstBank Stadium.

Unsurprisingly, they broached the topic of retirement and “whether he was going to hang it up” (via PEOPLE). Lewan asked Kelce directly: “What was the main deciding factor for you to come back for another year?” To which, the 36-year-old athlete candidly replied: “Oh, I don’t want to cuss in front of everybody, but I love this s**t.”

It is interesting because Kelce has spent his entire NFL career with the Kansas City Chiefs. There was speculation that Kelce might retire after the Chiefs missed the playoffs for the first time since 2014. The Chiefs finished with a disappointing 6–11 record. Since then, the media has reported that Kelce could retire. However, he has continued to express his desire to return to the game.

On Monday, June 22, Taylor Swift once again showed her support for her fiancé at the event’s kickoff. The soon-to-be-married couple posed for photos alongside Kittle and Olsen ahead of the 2026 Tight End University season in Nashville.

Moreover, Swift enthralled the crowd by performing her all-time classic “Love Story” with Lainey Wilson at Tight End University. Fan reactions have been pouring in since the clips went viral online. One fan commented: “Mother’s first ‘Love Story’ performance since she is officially engaged, I’m not crying you’re.”

A second fan wrote: “Taylor could sing Love Story for the 10,000th time and people would still go crazy and honestly, fair enough.”
