Inside Joe Manganiello’s previously undisclosed health struggles
Joe Manganiello’s upcoming memoir, Bloodlines, is set to be published on October 13, 2026, by Simon & Schuster. The book digs deep into the actor’s major health scares and episodes of “multiple near-death experiences and medical crises” in the past. According to the official synopsis, the struggle led to “a remarkable, globe-spanning quest that revealed answers about his ancestry, inherited trauma and the deeper histories we carry.”
Amid Manganiello’s rise to fame, “a cascade of autoimmune-related illnesses attacked his skin, thyroid, eyes, lungs, and digestive system.” The sudden unexplained medical crisis included “chronic pain, a life-saving organ amputation, existential crisis and a prolonged fight for survival.”
When doctors could not provide any explanation, it pushed the actor and his family to turn to unorthodox methods. Manganiello details his exploration of “shamans, pagan rituals, ancient myths, long-lost family records and the rebirth of his own spirituality.”
Manganiello has recently shared an exclusive statement with People, opening up about the book. “It was the most brutally difficult time of my life,” he recalled. The True Blood star added, “I wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy, but also my greatest adventure.”
He hoped that his remarkable journey “can give readers hope that answers and healing may lie for them on the other side of whatever they are fighting through.” Manganiello concluded, “The process of writing this book gave me the gift of perspective that helped me to see that my suffering was a cocoon from which I would emerge forever changed.”
Bloodlines is currently available to pre-order on multiple platforms, including Barnes & Noble and Amazon.
