Donald Trump Says Keir Starmer ‘Will Resign’ as U.K. Pressure Mounts

Donald Trump just dropped a bombshell about the UK Prime Minister’s future. The US President made a bold claim about Keir Starmer amid growing speculation over the Labour leader’s political fate.

Donald Trump says UK PM ‘will resign’

US President Donald Trump claimed on Sunday that British Prime Minister Keir Starmer “will resign.” The statement came amid widespread speculation that Starmer could announce a departure timeline as early as Monday. Trump made the claim in a post on Truth Social.

“Keir Starmer will resign as Prime Minister of The United Kingdom,” Trump wrote on the platform. However, it remains unclear whether the US president has definitive knowledge or is simply joining the commentary. Britain’s PA Media reported that Trump has not spoken to Starmer since the G7 summit in France.

Trump also criticized Starmer’s policy record in the same post. “He failed badly on two very important subjects — IMMIGRATION AND ENERGY,” Trump wrote, adding, “(OPEN NORTH SEA OIL!).” Trump has repeatedly urged Britain to reverse its freeze on new oil and gas exploration licenses.

Starmer, once nicknamed the “Trump whisperer,” has recently faced criticism from Trump over the war in Iran. A Downing Street spokesperson directed CNN to Starmer’s Friday statement. “There’s more to do, and that’s what I’m focused on, what I was elected to do, which is to serve my country,” Starmer said.

British Business Secretary Peter Kyle told the BBC on Sunday that Starmer was reflecting on “political realities” this weekend. Kyle added the Prime Minister would do “what is in the best interests of the country.” The UK media widely reports that Starmer will stand down on Monday. Support appears to be swinging behind Andy Burnham, the outgoing Manchester mayor, who recently won a by-election. CNN has reached out to the White House for further comment on the matter.
