Paul Giamatti’s Epic Comedy, 2 Premieres & More Peacock Releases This Week

Paul Giamatti’s hit comedy is among the new arrivals on Peacock this week, alongside two premieres and other new releases.

Arriving on Peacock June 28, The Holdovers is an acclaimed 2023 comedy-drama. It’s set over Christmas break in 1970 at Barton Academy, a New England boarding school. Giamatti plays Paul Hunham, a bitter history teacher no one likes.

He gets stuck supervising the students with nowhere to go for the holidays. After a few days, the other boys leave for a ski trip, leaving only 15-year-old Angus Tully. He’s a smart but rebellious student played by Dominic Sessa. Da’Vine Joy Randolph co-stars as Mary Lamb, the school’s head cook who’s grieving her son’s death in the Vietnam War.

Furthermore, things get tense on June 26 with Strung premiering on Peacock. Directed by Malcolm D. Lee and produced by Blumhouse Productions and Tyler Perry’s Peachtree & Vine, it’s a psychological thriller. Chloe Bailey stars as Leila, a gifted violinist. She takes a live-in tutoring job for the daughter of a wealthy, mysterious L.A. family. The deeper she goes, the more she exposes the patriarch’s dark secret. Suddenly, Leila is fighting just to stay alive and hold on to reality.

Also releasing this week on Peacock is Season 2 of Next Gen NYC. Premiering on June 25, the season follows a tight-knit circle of celebrity kids and Manhattan influencers as they navigate breakups, career pressures, and messy love triangles. The main plot starts with Ariana Biermann and Hudson McLeroy trying to move on after their split. Meanwhile, Ariana’s new chemistry with Charlie Zakkour and Liam Obergfoll adds fresh tension.
