Harry Enten compares JD Vance and Marco Rubio on CNN
CNN analyst Harry Enten noted that new polling data suggests that JD Vance’s popularity among Republicans has taken a hit, with Marco Rubio on the rise instead. He began by referring to numbers from January, which outlined that Vance was polling at +81 net approval among Republicans, while Rubio was at +75. However, there has been a stark drop in the vice president’s numbers since then.
Enten stated that Rubio has “shot up like a rocket,” polling at +77, as compared to Vance at +69. The Vice President and the Secretary of State have long been favorites among GOP voters. The race for the GOP’s 2028 nomination has now become more competitive.
“What I always say: you go to a home state, the people who know you best, that to me oftentimes gives you an idea of their political future,” Enten said. “JD Vance: Not so popular in the Buckeye State,” he added. The CNN analyst also noted, “The Iran war happened during that period, and that made JD Vance’s chances tumble, and has made Marco Rubio’s chances go right up. It’s neck and neck.”
Meanwhile, Donald Trump has not yet publicly endorsed either of them. However, according to several reports, the President often asks friends and advisers how they would compare Vance and Rubio. Most recently, Vance said that Trump is supportive of his future political endeavors in a recent interview on CBS’s Sunday Morning. “I have no doubt that the president of the United States is going to be very supportive of anything that I ultimately decide to do,” the VP said. Vance also shared that he is not “sitting around figuring out whether I’m going to run for president.”
