Sources close to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have claimed the couple is “livid” about not receiving the same level of security in Britain as the extended royal family. The Duke of Sussex’s disputes over changes to the security arrangements for his family have returned to the spotlight.
Prince Harry & Meghan Markle reportedly see a glaring double standard in the security debate
After Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepped down as working royals, their UK security arrangements have changed. The 41-year-old has challenged these changes and stressed that this affects him as well as his wife and children.
Recently, Kate Middleton’s sister, Pippa Middleton and her husband James Matthews got permission to strengthen security measures. This has reignited the debate about Prince Harry’s security measures (via Radar Online).
Middleton and Matthews live with their three children at Barton Court, their $22.5 million estate in Berkshire, England. They have been granted permission to amp up the security, thanks to their position as part of the extended family. The change has drawn comparisons with the young Prince’s fruitless legal efforts for better security in the UK.
A source told Radar Online, “Government officials, however, reject the idea that there is any direct comparison to be made. Their position has consistently been that Harry’s dispute concerns taxpayer-funded police protection and decisions made by specialist security committees, whereas cases involving private security measures at family homes are governed by entirely different rules, processes and considerations.”
“That distinction is one officials continue to stress, even as public debate over the issue shows no sign of fading away, and Harry and Meghan are livid they seem to be subjected to double standards when it comes to protecting their safety compared to others linked to the royal family,” they added. Meanwhile, per reports, Matthews has argued that his family’s high public profile has necessitated enhanced security measures.
