House of the Dragon Season 3 is all set to introduce the Tywin Lannister of the Game of Thrones prequel series, according to program co-creator Ryan Condal. In a recent interview, the veteran screenwriter hyped up the arrival of Ormund Hightower (James Norton) in HOTD’s upcoming installment by claiming that he represents the “Tywin Lannister of this world.”
Ryan Condal compares House of the Dragon Season 3’s Ormund Hightower to Tywin Lannister
While speaking with SFX Magazine, Condal set the ground for Ormund Hightower’s introduction in House of the Dragon Season 3 by likening him to one of the most meticulous yet dangerous villains of Game of Thrones.
“He’s the Lord of the Hightower, basically the Tywin Lannister (Charles Dance) of this world,” he remarked, as per GamesRadar+. “He’s the richest guy who’s not sitting on a throne somewhere. Ormund has the largest standing army left in Westeros and a dragon, so he is going to introduce a big old wrinkle into this.”
Notably, Ormund is coming into the show as the first cousin of Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke) and the nephew of Otto Hightower (Rhys Ifans). James Norton, who gained global recognition for playing the lead role in the critically acclaimed British crime drama Happy Valley, will be taking on the mantle of the Hightower prince in House of the Dragon Season 3.
Despite sharing so many similarities with Tywin Lannister, Ormund manages to stand out on his own in House of the Dragon, as per Condal. “Ormund is really a sketch in the book, and we don’t have a sense of who he is, so it was really fun diving in and creating a really deep, complex, and three-dimensional character out of him that introduces a new kind of complication into the world,” he exclaimed.
House of the Dragon Season 3 premieres on HBO Max and HBO on June 21.
