The Bernie Mac Show is leaving Netflix soon
The acclaimed sitcom The Bernie Mac Show will soon no longer be available on Netflix. According to What’s on Netflix, the beloved comedy series is scheduled to leave the streaming platform on July 1, 2026.
Originally premiering on Fox in November 2001, The Bernie Mac Show remained on the network for five seasons before concluding in April 2006. Created by Larry Wilmore and loosely based on Bernie Mac’s real-life experiences and his stand-up comedy routines, the series became one of the most acclaimed family sitcoms of its era.
The show centers on Bernie and Wanda McCullough, whose lives are dramatically altered when they take custody of Bernie’s three nieces and nephews after a family crisis. Unprepared for the sudden responsibility, the couple must navigate the challenges of raising Vanessa, Jordan, and the youngest sibling, Bryana. The series follows the family’s adjustment to their new reality, with Bernie’s unconventional parenting style often creating conflict.
Bernie Mac led the cast as Bernard McCullough alongside Kellita Smith as Wanda McCullough. The ensemble also featured Camille Winbush as Vanessa Thomkins, Jeremy Suarez as Jordan Thomkins, and Dee Dee Davis as Bryana Thomkins. Over the course of its run, the show welcomed numerous high-profile guest stars such as Halle Berry, Serena Williams, Ashton Kutcher, Matt Damon, and others playing themselves.
The series earned widespread critical praise during its run. Its first season holds a 95 percent score from critics on Rotten Tomatoes based on 20 reviews.
