JD Vance recently sat down with his wife, Usha Vance, on CBS’s Sunday Morning. Speaking with journalist Robert Costa, the couple explored a variety of topics, including a potential 2028 presidential candidacy for Vance.

During the interview, the Vice President said that he has not made a decision about seeking the 2028 Republican presidential nomination after the 2026 midterm elections. However, Vance said that he expects President Donald Trump to be supportive of his plans.

“I have no doubt that the president of the United States is going to be very supportive of anything that I ultimately decide to do,” Vance said. “But we really just haven’t talked about what that thing will be,” he added.

Vance further shared that he is not “sitting around figuring out whether I’m going to run for president.” The VP added, “Usha and I will absolutely sit down and talk about what comes next for our family,” but only after the 2026 midterms. “The way I make decisions is, I try not to make them until I absolutely must,” he stated.

At one point, Vance noted that he does not initiate conversations about his future political endeavors with Trump. “I never bring it up,” the VP said, adding, “But sure, the president brings it up a lot, sometimes publicly, sometimes privately. You know, the president’s a political animal. He loves this stuff. He’s very fascinated by it.”

Vance went on to add that both he and the president do not speak about the matter “in any great detail.” He explained, “Because, again, I think both of us are focused on the here-and-now.”
