Hank Azaria, voice actor on The Simpsons, has weighed in on Taylor Swift’s New York Knicks game appearance. The Brockmire star is now among those unhappy with the pop star for attending Game 4 of the NBA Finals between the New York Knicks and San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday night.
Speaking on The Dan Le Batard Show on Thursday, Azaria shared his surprise at the number of famous faces in the crowd. “It was crazy in there celebrity-wise,” he said.
“I’ll tell you the one that bothered me was Taylor Swift,” he added. “Come on. I know she’s the hugest thing in the world, but we had to sit with her all through the NFL, and now she’s at the Garden.”
Swift’s courtside seat drew criticism from sports commentators who questioned why she had that spot, Entertainment Weekly reported. Azaria also called the “Blank Space” hitmaker’s appearance at the game “ridiculous,” especially given how hard celebrities usually find it to secure free tickets at Madison Square Garden.
“You don’t know from the Garden if you’re going to get in until that day,” he explained. “If you’re Ben Stiller or Tracy Morgan, you know. I think Spike [Lee] actually pays for his tickets. So they don’t let you know until day-of because there’s such high demand.”
Hank Azaria further shared that he didn’t receive free tickets to Game 3 but was granted free entry to Game 4. He watched that key game alongside celebs like Rainn Wilson, Jeremy Strong, and Questlove. However, he still griped about his seats in the venue’s Cisco Suites, upper-level boxes tucked near the rafters.
“Celebrities are scattered throughout the entire garden,” The Along Came Polly actor said. “You only see the A+ list down at the bottom. Everybody else is stuck wherever.”
