Donald Trump Claims NBA Finals Crowd Was on His Side — Source

Donald Trump is insisting that his reception at Madison Square Garden during the NBA Finals was far more positive than critics have suggested. The president attended Game 3 of the NBA Finals between the New York Knicks and San Antonio Spurs on June 8.

With this, Trump became the first sitting U.S. president to attend an NBA Finals game. When he appeared on the Jumbotron during the national anthem and saluted to the audience, videos from inside the arena captured a mixture of cheers with some rather loud boos from NBA fans.

Donald Trump thinks he received ‘mostly cheers’ by Knicks fans at NBA finals

Speaking to reporters afterward before departing from New York, President Donald Trump brushed off the criticism and said he viewed the moment favorably. “I thought it was amazing, actually,” Trump said when asked about the crowd reaction. Further referring to the moment he appeared on the arena screens, the POTUS added: “You mean, when they had the camera on me? I thought it was very good.”

Trump, a longtime Knicks fan who attended the game as a guest of team owner James Dolan, had previously spoken enthusiastically about the team’s playoff run.“I’ve been a Knick fan for a long time,” he told reporters. Videos circulating online showed the crowd’s overall reaction to Trump’s presence lasting only a few seconds. Some fans cheered and chanted “USA,” while others audibly booed him as he saluted during the national anthem.

Frankly, the POTUS’ reaction quickly became a talking point on social media, with supporters and critics debating whether the applause or the jeers were louder. Despite the viral clips, Trump appears unfazed, maintaining that the reception was largely positive and describing the experience as “amazing.” Unfortunately, people around the world have also been converting this post-game interview into several popular memes.
