Jonathan Bailey’s $540M Blockbuster Sequel Heads to Netflix

A film sequel featuring Jonathan Bailey will soon be available to stream on Netflix. Its arrival on the platform stems from the distributor’s licensing deal with the streaming juggernaut.

Wicked: For Good streams on Netflix in July

Wicked: For Good, the sequel to 2024’s Wicked, which features Jonathan Bailey in a prominent role, will reportedly start streaming on Netflix on July 20, 2026, as per What’s on Netflix.

Its arrival on the OTT platform is the result of the streamer’s deal with Universal. As per the agreement, the studio’s films will stay on Netflix for ten months following their initial arrival on Peacock before returning to the latter. This was supposed to take effect in 2027 but has seemingly started a year earlier.

Made on an estimated budget of $150 million, the movie premiered in the United States on November 21, 2025. Following its release, it grossed approximately $540 million at the box office. This figure is considerably lower than the previous film’s total worldwide gross, an estimated $758 million.

Moreover, compared to its predecessor, the film has been less warmly received by critics. It holds a 66% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes and has a Metascore of 58 on Metacritic. Meanwhile, the original holds a “certified fresh” 88% on RT and has a “generally favorable” Metascore of 73.

Furthermore, audience scores are impressive yet lower. On RT, the film has an impressive 92% “verified hot” rating, slightly inferior to the original’s 95%. On the other hand, it has a “generally favorable” user score of 6.7 on Metacritic, lower than its predecessor’s 8.6 score, which denotes “universal acclaim.”

Wicked: For Good revolves around Glinda and Elphaba as they embrace their respective identities of Glinda the Good and the Wicked Witch of the West.

Jon M. Chu directed the movie, having helmed the previous one. Meanwhile, Winnie Holzman and Dana Fox co-wrote the script. In addition to Jonathan Bailey, the movie stars Ariana Grande, Cynthia Erivo, Jeff Goldblum, Michelle Yeoh, Ethan Slater, Marissa Bode, and Colman Domingo, among others.
