San Antonio Spurs point guard De’Aaron Fox has spoken out against the tight security measures that were in place at Madison Square Garden for President Donald Trump’s appearance. Fox voiced his disapproval of Trump’s presence at the event during a pregame shootaround ahead of the Monday night Knicks vs Spurs NBA Finals game.

“I think the president being here just makes it inconvenient on everybody else,” Fox stated. “We’ve got more, obviously more, security. We’ve got to send stuff early. I think our buses are a little earlier, so that’s that” (via The Daily Beast).

The security measures were reportedly so tight that Fox’s chapstick lid was also confiscated. “The less stuff you can bring, the better,” the NBA star noted with a laugh. “Obviously, we’re getting screened like it’s TSA. It’s a little inconvenient for the people that’s got to play, but it is what it is.”

Fox continued, “It’s New York, so regardless of who’s here, you know it’s gonna be loud, it’s gonna be rowdy.” He added, “You know when you come here, and you go against this team, regardless of when they’re good or if they’re not, it’s gonna be a building that comes ready to support the team.”

Shortly after it was confirmed that Trump would attend the NBA Finals Game 3 on Monday, the New York Knicks released a statement. They informed fans about the security measures they needed to be mindful of at the venue.

“A strict no-bag policy will be in effect,” the statement read. The Knicks announced that the Secret Service will perform “TSA-style screening procedures.” They also encouraged ticket holders to reach the venue “at least two hours before tip-off” and check the list of “prohibited items” before arriving.
