A royal wedding reportedly exposed some lingering family distance. According to insiders, Prince William and Kate Middleton had minimal interaction with Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie during Peter Phillips’ wedding to Harriet Sperling. The celebration brought several members of the royal family together over the weekend. However, sources claim the Waleses made little effort to engage with the York sisters.
Prince William and Kate Middleton kept their distance with other royals, claims source
Peter Phillips and Harriet Sperling’s wedding guest list itself attracted attention because several prominent royals were absent. According to one insider, the gathering was never intended to be a full-scale family reunion.
However, sources claim Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie were among the guests largely because King Charles and Princess Anne wanted them there. One insider alleged that both senior royals “have always had a soft spot” for ex-Prince Andrew’s daughters. As such, they felt it was important for them to attend Peter’s special day (via Naughty But Nice).
What reportedly stood out to observers, however, was the interaction, or lack thereof, between William, Kate, and the two sisters. One source alleged that while the Prince and Princess of Wales remained courteous, they appeared to keep their distance throughout the wedding.
“There was no effort to mingle,” an insider claimed. The source further alleged that there were no meaningful catch-up conversations or attempts to create a larger “family moment” during the wedding festivities. According to the same account, William briefly greeted Beatrice upon arrival before moving on.
Another insider claimed that the Waleses were “not seeking out” Beatrice or Eugenie during the celebration. What’s more, the source further alleged “they certainly weren’t interested in being photographed with them.”
Perhaps the most striking claim came from an insider who suggested William would have preferred a different guest list. “If it had been entirely William’s decision, they wouldn’t have been there,” the source added.
