Kevin Hart Wasn’t Ready for Dwayne Johnson’s Joke From His Roast

When you sign up for a celebrity roast, you expect to take a few heavy hits. But comedian Kevin Hart found out the hard way that even the thickest skin can be pierced when your best friend takes the stage. While Netflix’s star-studded comedy special subjected Hart to a barrage of insults, it was his longtime brother-in-arms, Dwayne Johnson, who managed to deliver the night’s most shocking blow.

Kevin Hart reveals Dwayne Johnson’s joke from Netflix roast caught him ‘off guard’

Speaking about the experience afterwards on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Hart confessed to the unexpected sting. “Kevin Hart admitted that Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson’s joke about the comedian’s dad caught him ‘off guard’ at the Netflix roast”. He admitted that his Jumanji co-star managed to completely blindside him during the live broadcast.

While a roast is inherently designed to be a brutal, no-holds-barred environment, Johnson’s material pushed past the typical jokes about Hart’s height and straight into deeply personal territory. The joke in question pivoted on his late father, catching the veteran comic totally unprepared.

Despite the initial shock of the punchline, Hart made it clear there are no hard feelings between the Hollywood powerhouse duo. For the comedian, the joke wasn’t a malicious crossing of the line, but rather a testament to the art of the roast itself. He praised his friend’s comedic execution, ultimately describing the jaw-dropping moment as “beautiful comedy” and asserting that everything is fair game once you agree to step onto the stage.

The live event featured plenty of chaotic, raunchy moments between the two—including Johnson heavily teasing Hart’s wife, Eniko, and poking fun at the comedian’s 5-foot-2 stature. At one point during the set, Hart jokingly yelled out, “Why would you say that about my fing wife? I want to talk to you later,” to which Johnson quickly fired back, “But you’re the one who said, ‘Hey, listen, fing say anything you want!’”

Ultimately, the brutal jabs only highlighted the deep, chaotic chemistry the two stars share. Johnson wrapped up his savage set by reminding the comedian, “I love you. Yes, I do,” proving that no matter how brutal the roast gets, their blockbuster bromance remains fully intact.
