Meghan Markle was recently slammed for selling candles for $256 from her brand, As Ever, after previously criticizing $100 candles a decade ago. The recent move has drawn a lot of public scrutiny as footage of Markle calling $100 candles “obnoxious” has surfaced online.
Meghan Markle faces backlash for selling candle set
The Suits alumna is being slammed after she started selling candles for $256 from her brand, As Ever. The scrutiny comes after a video of her slamming $100 candles a decade ago resurfaced in the wake of this development.
Back at that time, Meghan Markle called the $100 candles “obnoxious.” The clip is now doing rounds on the internet, as fans continue to slam her (via The Express). “There are no $100 candles on my site,” Markle had said back in 2016 while promoting her now-defunct blog, The Tig. “That’s so obnoxious.”
The Duchess of Sussex continued, “I just want things on there that you can have. And I want people who understand that ethos.” She further added, “I’ve always crafted [The Tig] as ‘aspirational girl next door.’ Like, you can aspire for it but totally attain it too.”
Meghan Markle’s brand was launched in 2025. Though a single candle from As Ever is under $100, the set of four candles costs $256. It also contains a box of matches. The individual 8.5-ounce candles are $64 each, and their names are a tribute to Markle and Prince Harry’s kids, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
There has also been an uproar around the naming of the brand’s products, as they have used the names of her children. As Ever’s other products include jam, honeycomb, tea, and wine. Amidst the backlash, Meghan Markle or her reps have not yet commented on the same.
Notably, Markle remains an interesting figure in popular culture. Recently, she and her brand were in the headlines after she sent a gift package to The Notorious JTB. The online influencer has previously been critical of other royal family members, including Prince William and Kate Middleton.
