Every Season of Eric Dane’s TNT Action Series Is Coming to Netflix

All seasons of a TNT dystopian sci-fi series starring the late Eric Dane will be added to Netflix very soon. It centers on a Navy ship crew trying to save the world after a deadly virus wipes out most people.

The Last Ship streams on Netflix in June

The Last Ship Seasons 1-5 will begin streaming on Netflix from Monday, June 22 (via What’s on Netflix).

It is loosely based on William Brinkley’s 1988 eponymous novel. Hank Steinberg and Steven Kane developed the show for TNT. It stars Eric Dane as Tom, Rhona Mitra as Rachel, Adam Baldwin as Mike, Charles Parnell as Russ, Travis Van Winkle as Danny, and Marissa Neitling as Kara, among others.

The Last Ship takes place in a post-apocalyptic world where a global pandemic has killed more than 80% of the human population. It centers on the fictional crew of the U.S. Navy missile destroyer USS Nathan James, which remains unaffected due to its time at sea. Led by CO CDR Tom Chandler, the crew embarks on a mission to develop and distribute a cure.

While the show and the book share the same premise, there are several significant differences between them. The events in the novel take place in the 1980s after a nuclear war, and are mainly told through the flashbacks of its central character, Thomas. The TV series, on the other hand, changes the disaster from nuclear war to a deadly pandemic, is set in the modern world, is more action-oriented, and introduces new characters.

The Last Ship premiered on TNT on June 22, 2014, and reportedly drew 5.3 million viewers (via The Wrap). It ran for five seasons, totaling 56 episodes. Additionally, the movie’s finale, titled “Commitment,” aired on November 11, 2018. On the ratings front, it holds a user score of 7.4 on IMDb, based on nearly 70K votes. Meanwhile, Metacritic reports a critics’ score of 60 and a user score of 7.1.
