Donald Trump launched a scathing attack on a federal judge after a court ruling temporarily halted his plans to rename and renovate the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. In a lengthy social media post, Trump targeted both the judge and the judge’s wife. He accused the court of unfairly interfering with the future of the Washington, D.C., performing arts institution.
Donald Trump slams judge who ruled against his Kennedy Center renaming in scathing post
The dispute stems from a decision that Christopher Cooper issued as a U.S. District Court judge. Cooper ruled that the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts could not formally adopt a new name without congressional approval. He pointed to the center’s founding legislation, which explicitly names the venue after former President John F. Kennedy.
“The Kennedy Center’s organic statute makes crystal clear that the Center is to be named for President Kennedy.” Plus, “it cannot bear any other formal name or public memorial based on the Board’s unilateral say-so,” Cooper wrote in his ruling. “Congress gave the Kennedy Center its name, and only Congress can change it.”
Donald Trump responded on Truth Social by posting a lengthy statement that criticized the ruling and questioned the judge’s impartiality. In the post, Trump accused the judge of being influenced by his wife, attorney Amy Jeffress. He described her as a Democrat. Also, Trump alleged that Jeffress’ political background created a conflict of interest. He shared that Cooper’s wife, Amy Jeffress, doesn’t want people to know that she has a Conflict of Interest with an important Judge and is a Radical Left Democrat. Moreover, he explained that this is why she doesn’t use the ‘Cooper’ name. Plus, he worked as a Federal Prosecutor and Counselor to Obama Attorney General, Eric Holder.
The president described the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts as a deteriorating facility that urgently needs major upgrades. He argued that the venue must replace critical infrastructure systems. This includes heating and air-conditioning equipment, and warns that further delays could jeopardize its future. In fact, that is “because a Judge, whose wife is an anti-Trump hater, and he is too, decided, unprecedentedly, to not allow a desperately needed Building Renovation to go forward.”
