Netflix‘s sequel series A Different World has received its teaser trailer and official release date. A sequel to the popular classic sitcom, which ran from the late 80s to early 90s, the upcoming series will return to Hillman College, but with a new class this time.
The official synopsis for the show reads, “A Different World returns to Hillman College with a new class stepping onto campus — and beloved faces coming home. At the center is Deborah Wayne (Maleah Joi Moon), Whitley and Dwayne’s lovingly sheltered youngest daughter, a free spirit with a flair for the spotlight and a big heart who’s still figuring out her own path at Hillman.”

When is the release date for the A Different World sequel TV show?
The original A Different World, a spin-off of The Cosby Show, premiered on September 24, 1987, and lasted for six seasons that wrapped up in the year 1993. Interestingly, Netflix’s sequel TV series will also be released on September 24, meaning the new show premieres exactly 39 years after the original series debuted.
The sequel’s cast includes Maleah Joi Moon, Alijah Kai, Cornell Young IV, Jordan Aaron Hall, Kennedi Reece, and Chibuikem Uche, among others.
The official logline mentions that when Deborah, Dwayne Wayne, and Whitley Gilbert’s free-spirited child enters her freshman year at Hillman College, “she finds the shadow of her parents difficult to escape as she sets out to build her own legacy, while having the time of her life, alongside a whole new generation of Hillman’s best and brightest.”
The series has been described as “a hopeful dramedy, full of heart and unapologetically centered on the richness and complexity of the Black experience.”
Felicia Pride serves as the showrunner and producer for A Different World. Tom Werner, Debbie Allen, Felicia Pride, Reggie Rock Bythewood, Gina Prince Bythewood, and Mandy Summers are serving as the executive producers.
A Different World, featuring 10 episodes, will premiere on September 24, 2026, on Netflix.
