A new poll suggests that Donald Trump‘s disapproval rating now matches that of former President Richard Nixon‘s from the Watergate scandal era. This comes after a previous poll found that Trump’s approval rating had hit its lowest level at 39.8 percent. The new results come after Trump’s recent trip to China.
Donald Trump’s disapproval rating draws comparison to Richard Nixon
President Donald Trump’s disapproval rating has further changed, and is now similar to that of the 37th US President, Richard Nixon.
According to a report by The Mirror, a recent Gallup poll revealed that Trump’s disapproval rating now stands at 63 percent. This is the same rating that Nixon had in his second term during the infamous Watergate scandal. Based on the results, the poll compared Trump’s rating to those of 12 Presidents of the United States. The data reveals that the Presidents ranking behind him and Nixon are George W Bush, Joe Biden, Barack Obama, and Jimmy Carter. Moreover, it suggests that Trump’s first-term disapproval rating was 53 percent.
Another poll by RealClearPolitics shows that Trump’s disapproval rating is higher than it was during the January 6, 2021, riots. RealClearPolitics co-founder Tom Bevan said, “Trump’s disapproval rating today (58.3 percent) is higher than its highest point in his first term (57.9 percent), which occurred after January 6, 2021.”
As the midterm elections approach, many political commentators also believe that Trump might face a setback due to the change in his approval and disapproval ratings. The factors that have reportedly affected his chances were the ICE situation, the war against Iran, and the rising gas prices. Previous polls have also suggested that many of Trump’s supporters who voted for him previously are now not satisfied with his performance. Additionally, these former supporters have reportedly expressed regret for voting for Trump.
