Gayle King says she appreciates ex-husband’s apology over infidelity
Gayle King was reportedly “surprised” by the apology made by her ex-husband, William Bumpus. The TV host recently appeared on the “Call Her Daddy” podcast. During the episode, she opened up about catching Bumpus in an extramarital affair.
At the time she found out about the affair, the couple already had two children together. The duo eventually separated in 1993, nearly 11 years after their marriage. Recently, Bumpus spoke to TMZ and offered an apology to his ex-wife.
He said, “My deepest apologies to Gayle, to our daughter Kirby and her husband, Virgil, to our son William and his wife, Elise, and to our three grandchildren, for the pain I caused decades ago. Those actions were mine. I have long owned them — including publicly in my own words in 2016, which still stand.”
Bumpus further added that King was fully entitled to share her painful experience from decades ago and that he respected her decision to tell her story publicly. He also spoke warmly about King, saying he remains extremely grateful to her for giving him the “two greatest gifts” of his life — their children.
Later, when King was asked about the apology, she told the outlet that she was “surprised.” The 71-year-old said, “I was surprised that you guys got him.” She added, “A, that you found him, that’s number one. And B, that he was even talking. Because he never talks. So, I was surprised, but I can also say I appreciated what he had to say.”
