A major Marvel villain group is reportedly getting its own project at Marvel Studios. The organization has deep roots in the MCU, stretching back to the franchise’s first film.
Marvel rumored to be developing a Ten Rings project
Marvel Studios is reportedly developing a Ten Rings project, according to industry scooper Daniel RPK. MCU Film News shared the scooper’s report on X (formerly Twitter) on May 26. However, the project’s format remains unconfirmed at this stage.
The Ten Rings organization first appeared in 2008’s Iron Man as a terrorist cell. In the film, the group kidnapped Tony Stark in Afghanistan and forced him to build weapons. However, Stark instead built the Mark I armor and escaped captivity. The organization then returned in Iron Man 3 through Aldrich Killian’s false flag attacks. Specifically, Killian hired actor Trevor Slattery to pose as the group’s fake leader.
Meanwhile, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings fully explored the organization in 2021. The film revealed the group’s ancient origins under the immortal warlord Xu Wenwu. Tony Leung portrayed Wenwu, while Simu Liu featured as his son Shang-Chi. Furthermore, Meng’er Zhang played Xu Xialing, who took over the organization after Wenwu’s death.
Notably, earlier reports have suggested Marvel’s interest in exploring the Ten Rings further. Insider Alex Perez previously stated that Marvel wanted to show the organization’s influence throughout history. That concept would have depicted the group interacting with characters across different MCU eras. Additionally, Faran Tahir reportedly reprises his role as Raza in VisionQuest.
Since its debut, the Ten Rings has appeared across multiple MCU projects over the years. The organization featured in Ant-Man, Ms. Marvel, and Wonder Man in various capacities. Xu Xialing currently leads the group following the events of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.
However, Marvel Studios has not officially confirmed the reported Ten Rings project.
