Mckenna Grace & Shirley Chen’s Horror Movie Tops Steaming Charts Days After Debut

A 2025 body-horror featuring Mckenna Grace and Shirley Chen is dominating Paramount+’s streaming charts. This is shortly after Slanted debuted on the platform last week, taking over the top spot from Tom Cruise’s action epic, which has been leading the charts for weeks.

Slanted dominates Paramount+ movie charts

As of May 18, 2026, Mckenna Grace’s body-horror comedy is the #1 film on Paramount+ in the United States.

The film experienced a very limited theatrical release earlier this year, making less than $1 million at the box office. However, per FlixPatrol’s report, it climbed to the top spot almost immediately after it began streaming on the platform on Friday, May 15, 2026.

Slanted has also overthrown Tom Cruise’s Top Gun: Maverick from the top spot, which is trailing at #2. It is followed by Primate at #3, Liam Hemsworth’s Killerman ranking #4, Morgan Freeman’s An Unfinished Life at #5, and Mark Wahlberg’s Shooter sitting at #6.

The movie centers on Joan Huang, a Chinese-American high school girl with low self-esteem. In the hope of becoming prom queen, she undergoes ethnicity-modification surgery after learning about it online. The surgery initially appears successful, turning Joan white. As the days pass and she gets the attention she wished for, the devastating side effects of the surgery sneak up on her.

Amy Wang wrote and directed the film. It features Shirley Chen as Joan, Mckenna Grace as Jo, Maitreyi Ramakrishnan as Brindha, Amelie Zilber as Olivia, Vivian Wu as Sofia, and R. Keith Harris as Dr. Willie, among others.

Slanted premiered at the 2025 South by Southwest Film & TV Festival on March 8. It was followed by a limited theatrical release in the United States on March 13, 2026. At the box office, the film made roughly $906,216 domestically (via Box Office Mojo).

In terms of critical reception, the film received mixed-to-positive reviews from critics and audiences. On Rotten Tomatoes, it currently has a 68% Tomatometer score and a 66 % Popcornmeter score.
