President Donald Trump was reportedly served a menu featuring roast duck, crispy beef ribs, and tiramisu during Thursday’s state dinner hosted by China‘s President Xi Jinping in Beijing. The banquet was part of Trump’s visit to China, where the two leaders also discussed trade tensions and broader diplomatic ties.
Donald Trump was served a lavish menu for China state dinner, claims report
China’s state dinner reportedly combined traditional cuisine with international dishes that aligned more closely with Donald Trump‘s known food preferences. The menu included lobster in tomato soup, stewed seasonal vegetables, slow-cooked salmon in mustard sauce, pan-fried pork buns, and a pastry described as being shaped like a trumpet shell. Desserts included tiramisu, fruit, and ice cream.
The selection appeared carefully planned. After all, Beijing is known for regional dishes such as Peking duck and zha jiang mian, a wheat noodle dish served with soybean paste. Trump, however, has long been associated with simpler American-style meals, including burgers, fries, well-done steaks, and Caesar salads.
Chinese chefs also appeared to take a cautious approach during Trump’s first official visit to China in 2017. That dinner reportedly featured dishes such as seafood chowder, kung pao chicken, and beef steak served with tomato sauce, which observers viewed as an attempt to adapt Chinese fine dining to Trump’s tastes (via The New York Times).
The state dinner followed a formal welcome ceremony at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. A military honour guard greeted Trump on arrival, while a band played the U.S. national anthem. School children waving Chinese and American flags also lined parts of the route.
The trip is the first visit to China by an American president since Trump’s earlier trip during his first term in 2017. Trump and Xi held bilateral discussions lasting around two hours, longer than initially expected, although officials disclosed few details about any specific agreements.
