Nancy Guthrie Case ‘Didn’t Look Right’ From the Start, Sheriff Chris Nanos Says

Nancy Guthrie‘s disappearance case reportedly did not “look right” from the very beginning. The claim came from Sheriff Chris Nanos, the Arizona sheriff, who has been leading the investigation. The news came after the 84-year-old woman’s disappearance from her home in Tucson, Ariz, had surpassed a hundred days.

Sheriff Chris Nanos says investigators suspected foul play early in Nancy Guthrie case

Sheriff Chris Nanos reportedly said that investigators suspected foul play quite early in the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, the mother of Savannah Guthrie. The Pima County sheriff allegedly recalled being notified regarding a missing person’s case over a text message on February 1, at around 2 p.m. As reported by PEOPLE magazine, the sheriff told them that he received another text a few minutes after the chief alerted him about the missing woman. According to Nanos, the text message said that the scene of the disappearance “doesn’t look right, something is wrong.” The text reportedly further read, “We’re calling homicide.”

Nanos then went on to explain to the news outlet that “The reason that homicide was called is because they are the investigative unit in charge of missing person.” The sheriff continued, “Search and rescue is their operational team that helps assist with these issues.” The Pima County sheriff further talked about how the investigation in the Nancy Guthrie disappearance case has been progressing with each day. Per the news outlet, according to the sheriff, they have been “increasingly getting closer to answers.”

Meanwhile, while talking more about the investigation to the news outlet, Nanos said, “Everyday our DNA labs are working with our investigators.” The sheriff continued, “and they’re coming up with different ideas and different thoughts of how to help them make this DNA work for us.” He then explained, “How can we do more with what we have?” “And so that’s why I say it is — I think we’re getting closer,” also added the sheriff.
