Spider-Man 4 Report Claims Charlie Cox Isn’t Copying Andrew Garfield

Charlie Cox seems to have heard the Spider-Man: Brand New Day questions one too many times, but a new rumor suggests fans might want to stop asking. A prominent Marvel scooper now backs up what the Daredevil star has been saying all along, though Cox’s response still leaves room for doubt.

Spider-Man rumored not to break Matt Murdock out of prison in Brand New Day

Charlie Cox continues to deny his involvement in Spider-Man 4 after fans spotted potential connections to Daredevil: Born Again.

Cox addressed the speculation while speaking with host Brandon Davis, a clip of which was also shared on X (formerly Twitter). “I’m not in Spider-Man!” Cox stated when asked about the trailer showing Spider-Man fighting The Hand in a prison setting.

The actor acknowledged the comparison to Andrew Garfield’s famous denials before Spider-Man: No Way Home. When the host said, “If anybody knows the school of I’m not in the Spider-Man movie, it’s Andrew Garfield,” Cox added cryptically, “Well, you’ll see.”

Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 ended with Matt Murdock imprisoned for his vigilante actions. The Brand New Day trailer features Spider-Man battling The Hand in a prison, leading fans to theorize that Peter Parker breaks Murdock out.

However, The Cosmic Circus’ Alex Perez pushed back against that theory on X, writing that fans should “place their expectations close to zero for anyone expecting Peter to break Matt out of prison.” Perez clarified that the prison breakout involves a different character entirely.

Perez further claimed that Matt remains imprisoned when Daredevil: Born Again Season 3 begins. These details suggest the prison sequence could serve a separate storyline unrelated to Murdock’s incarceration.

Cox previously told The Wrap that crossover speculation has intensified since Marvel unified its Netflix characters into the MCU. He expressed enthusiasm about the possibility, saying, “It’d be so cool to kind of have some kind of crossover with all of the Avengers, with Spider-Man as Daredevil, rather than as Matt Murdock.” Jon Bernthal’s Punisher already holds a confirmed role in the film alongside Tom Holland, Zendaya, and Jacob Batalon.

The upcoming Spider-Man movie arrives in theaters on July 31, 2026.
