According to a new rumor, multiple origin stories for Doctor Doom were conceptualized for Avengers: Doomsday before the final one. Played by MCU veteran Robert Downey Jr., the villain is making his proper debut in the franchise in the movie. He previously appeared briefly in the post-credits scene of The Fantastic Four: First Steps, approaching and interacting with Franklin Richards, while a suspicious Sue Storm (Invisible Woman) watched.
Doctor Doom’s alternate origin ideas revealed in new rumor
A new rumor suggests that the makers of Avengers: Doomsday conceived different origin stories for Doctor Doom in the film.
This comes from prominent scooper MyTimetoShineHello, who wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “Doom’s origin story in Doomsday didn’t always involve him having a family.”
The insider then revealed the character’s other planned origins. One involved the deaths of his parents, while another had him believe he was a “reincarnation” of Tony Stark and that the MCU was his home universe.
Meanwhile, yet another idea depicted him as an underling of Mephisto, the real mastermind behind the movie’s events. Finally, one version had him “obsessed with either Pepper Potts or Sue Storm.”
Doom’s final origin story that will be depicted in Avengers: Doomsday is currently unknown. Needless to say, fans will find out when the film releases on December 18, 2026. However, Robert Downey Jr. was heavily involved in conceiving the character’s background, along with costume ideas, according to the directors, The Russo Brothers, who highlighted his commitment to the role.
Last year, while speaking to Entertainment Tonight, Joe Russo stated, “He is so immersed in it. He is so dialed in, he’s writing backstory, costume ideas… We were just on the phone with him this morning before we got here talking about it.”
The filmmaker continued, “He just loves really rich three-dimensional characters. He sees a real opportunity here with the character.”
Owing to its release date, Doomsday is set to go up against Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part Three at the box office on December 18.
