Jimmy Kimmel points out Donald Trump’s own joke after the President’s demand to fire him
Jimmy Kimmel has responded to calls for his dismissal by drawing attention to a recent remark made by Donald Trump. During a monologue, Kimmel referenced a recent speech in which Trump joked about not matching the length of his parents’ marriage, using it to draw a comparison with the backlash over his own comments.
The controversy began after Kimmel presented a satirical version of the White House Correspondents’ Dinner for his show. In the segment, he delivered a line about Melania Trump, saying, “Look at Melania, so beautiful. Mrs. Trump, you have a glow like an expectant widow.” The remark drew backlash over the weekend, particularly in the aftermath of the shooting incident at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner. Both Trump and the First Lady have publicly demanded that Kimmel be removed from his position.
Addressing the situation on his show, Kimmel responded to the criticism by playing a video of Trump speaking at an event welcoming King Charles to the United States. In the clip, Trump reflected on his parents’ 63-year marriage before turning to Melania and saying, “That’s a record we won’t be able to match, darling. I’m sorry. Just not going to work out that way.”
Reacting to the clip, Kimmel said, “Wait a minute. Did he just make a joke about his death? My god. You should be fired for that. Only Donald Trump would demand I be fired for making a joke about his old age and then a day later go out and make a joke about his own old age.”
In his previous broadcast, Kimmel also rejected the interpretation of his earlier comment. He stated, “It was not by any stretch of the definition a call to assassination. And they know that.”
