Taika Waititi is reportedly expanding his collaboration with Disney, with claims that he is currently involved in multiple high-profile franchises. According to the update, the filmmaker could be working on multiple films with the studio. However, no official confirmation has been issued so far.
Taika Waititi rumored to be working on three Disney movies
As per a recent report, Taika Waititi may be developing multiple new projects with The Walt Disney Company. Speculation points to as many as three films currently in discussion. While no official announcement has been made, the update suggests that the director’s ongoing association with the studio is continuing to grow.
The latest claim comes from industry insider MyTimeToShineHello, who stated on X (formerly Twitter) that Waititi is in talks to write and direct a major Disney-backed film. They noted, “Taika Waititi is in talks to write and direct a major IP film for The Walt Disney Company—not related to Marvel or Star Wars (he’s already doing one of each). And if you find out what it is… you might not be too happy.” However, these details remain unverified at this stage.
Waititi has previously collaborated with Disney on multiple projects. In November 2025, he worked with the studio on the holiday short Best Christmas Ever. It follows a young girl whose drawing comes to life on Christmas Day.
Speaking about the project, he said, “What makes this story uniquely Disney is the fact that it’s set in the world of a kid. It’s a kid and her new best friend, navigating the complex world together, and doing it just with the power of friendship and imagination (via The Hollywood Reporter).”
His filmography with Disney includes Thor: Ragnarok and Thor: Love and Thunder. Meanwhile, his broader work includes Jojo Rabbit and What We Do in the Shadows. Additionally, a December 2025 report by Deadline confirmed that Searchlight Pictures has set Waititi to direct Barn 8.
