Patrick Muldoon, who played Austin Reed on Days of Our Lives from 1992 to 1995, and again from 2011 to 2012, died at the age of 57 on the morning of April 19, 2026. As first reported by Deadline, the actor passed away suddenly following a heart attack. He recently worked on Dirty Hands, a film yet to be released.
Born in San Pedro, California, on September 27, 1968, Muldoon began his acting career when he was still in college with a two-episode arc on Who’s the Boss? After graduating from USC in 1991, he embarked on an acting career.
He acted in a recurring role on Saved by the Bell, which earned him some prominence. However, his breakthrough role came with Days of Our Lives. On the famed soap opera, he played Austin Reed, a boxer who becomes romantically linked with Carrie Brady (played by Christie Clark).
Muldoon originated this fan-favorite role and played it from 1992 to 1995. In 1995, Austin Peck took over the role and played it for quite a while. Muldoonj returned to the role of Austin Reed briefly in 2011 but was cut out the following year. He called the show his “home” back then.
From 1995 to 1996, Muldoon also portrayed Richard Hart on Melrose Place. This was also an acclaimed character, which further earned Muldoon the limelight.
On the big screen, Muldoon played Zander Barcalow in the 1997 film Starship Troopers. Despite its low critical appraisal, it went on to become a cult film. He also also executive produced several projects. These include The Tribes of Palos Verdes, Arkansas, Marlowe, The Card Counter, and The Dreadful.
Muldoon is survived by his partner, Miriam Rothbart, his parents, Deanna and Patrick Muldoon Sr., his sister and brother-in-law, Shana and Ahmet Zappa, and their children.
