Tom Holland’s Avengers: Doomsday Role Gets Gloomy Report After Simu Liu’s Story

Simu Liu’s recent Instagram story about Robert Downey Jr.’s Avengers: Doomsday-themed Easter eggs sparked speculation among fans about Tom Holland’s Spider-Man‘s involvement. Fans of the English actor’s iteration of the webslinger became hopeful about his possible appearance, especially after a closer analysis of Downey’s photo made them believe that his Spider symbol was used on one of the eggs. However, a new report has surfaced, dashing those hopes.

Tom Holland’s Spider-Man still rumored to be out of Avengers: Doomsday

Tom Holland’s Spider-Man is rumored to still be sitting out of Avengers: Doomsday. This is despite fan belief that Simu Liu’s Instagram story hinted at his involvement.

Notable scooper MyTimetoShineHello claimed on X (formerly Twitter) that Holland was currently not part of the film. However, they expressed hope that the film’s reshoots would make room for his appearance.

Holland is not officially confirmed for the movie yet. Notably, he was not part of the initial cast reveal livestream in March 2025. This confirmed the appearances of returning MCU heroes like Chris Hemsworth’s Thor and Anthony Mackie’s Captain America. It also revealed the returns of several actors from the 20th Century Fox X-Men films like Patrick Stewart (Professor X) and Ian McKellen (Magneto).

Last year, renowned insider Jeff Sneider reportedly revealed that Holland would sit out Doomsday’s events. He clarified that it was “more about the character’s schedule” and “less about the actor’s.” Sneider elaborated, “As I understand that Spider-Man 4 takes place at the same time as Doomsday, which would explain his expected absence from that film” (via Comicbook).

Although Holland isn’t confirmed for the fifth Avengers outing, he is definitely returning this year in his own film, Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Holland recently confirmed in a GQ interview that he is currently participating in additional filming for the highly anticipated movie.

The Crowded Room star clarified it was to improve certain scenes, which he stressed weren’t needed. Additionally, he revealed that they were figuring out how to “add a little bit more humor.” Furthermore, he shared that they were building on a villain’s story arc.

Brand New Day is on track for July 31, 2026, while Avengers: Doomsday is slated for December 18.
