Huge Phase 5 Character To Return in Next MCU Saga With Mephisto — Report

A Phase 5 character might be returning to the MCU in a pivotal role, per a new report. Notably, this character debuted in a Disney+ series that deals with supernatural and magical themes. In it, she and the protagonist shared an established complicated history, a core element of the overarching story.

Lady Death rumored to play a key role in next MCU saga

A new rumor suggests that Aubrey Plaza’s Lady Death, introduced in Phase 5, will play an important role in the next MCU saga.

The report comes from scooper James Mack. He alleged that she would be a major player in the supernatural side alongside the Midnight Sons, Sacha Baron Cohen’s Mephisto, and Dominique Thorne’s Ironheart. However, they clarified that they were uncertain about her appearance in Avengers: Secret Wars.

It should be noted that this is currently nothing more than a rumor. Marvel has yet to reveal when Plaza’s character will show up in the MCU next.

She first debuted in Agatha All Along, initially posing as Rio Vidal — the original Green Witch and the title character’s former lover — before revealing her true identity and nature as the personification of death.

Wanting to claim Wiccan/Billy Maximoff’s soul since she viewed his existence as a disruption of natural order, Death battled Agatha Harkness, who initially made a deal to hand over Billy to her in exchange for her own survival and freedom, but had a change of heart. The latter offered her life in place of Billy’s, which Death accepted, allowing the boy to walk free.

Rumors about Death’s return surfaced in September 2024, when Agatha All Along first premiered. Daniel RPK shared on his Patreon that Marvel was considering her for “more projects,” but didn’t reveal what they were. Months later, Lizzie Hill revealed in a Q&A session for The Cosmic Circus that “[they] heard she’ll be back.”

Notably, Plaza shared in an interview with GQ, two years before the series’ premiere, that her role would be “really pivotal” within the wider MCU. This comment seems to lend some weight to rumors of her return and Marvel’s long-term plans for the character.
