Stephen Colbert seemed happy with Donald Trump‘s latest poll numbers, but he was dumbfounded by the 22% population who still “strongly approve” of the President’s administration amidst rising gas prices, an ongoing war, and numerous other issues plaguing the American citizens.
Stephen Colbert shocked to know 22% people still support Donald Trump
Veteran talk show host Stephen Colbert celebrated Donald Trump‘s latest poll numbers on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on March 31, 2026. During his monologue, the host celebrated how “the fact that Trump is ruining everything all the time has not helped his popularity.”
“According to a new UMass, YouGov, ‘you spin me, right round baby right round’ poll, his approval rating has sunk to 33%,” Colbert announced to a cheering audience (via Variety). “That’s only one out of every three people. To put that into perspective, turn to your right. Now turn to your left. Both of those people are more popular than Donald Trump.”
He also noted that with 47.2% of Americans strongly disapproving of Trump, the numbers are “pretty rough.” However, he brought the focus to the 22.4% who still strongly approve of him.
“Who are you?” Colbert asked the people who still strongly approve of Donald Trump, “Well, I want gas to be expensive! I want the Kennedy Center blown up! And I know this is a pipe dream, but is there any way that maybe, maybe we could get Denmark to hate us? Because I would just love it if the price of licorice went up, too.”
Colbert is not the only talk show host to hit out at Trump this week. John Oliver roasted the President over his decision to put his face on national parks’ America the Beautiful passes.
Meanwhile, Donald Trump remains a controversial figure in the world of politics, with the war in Iran still going on.
