Donald Trump has voiced his support for Tiger Woods following the star golfer’s DUI arrest last week. Speaking with the New York Post on Tuesday, March 31, the President shared that he had a chat with Woods after the incident.

“I think he’s doing great, he’s doing good,” Trump said. “He tested negative for alcohol, as you know, and he is under a tremendous physical pressure from his various ailments, you know, the back and the leg,” he added.

Sympathizing with Woods, Trump further stated, “He lives a life of pain. He has a lot of pain. He’s an amazing guy. He’s an amazing athlete. He does have pain.” The POTUS added, “He doesn’t have an alcohol problem, but he does have pain.”

Woods was taken into custody on March 27 after he flipped his Land Rover while attempting to overtake a truck in Florida. According to reports, he agreed to a breathalyzer test, which did not detect any sign of alcohol, but refused a urinalysis. Woods was subsequently arrested and charged with suspicion of misdemeanor DUI with property damage as well as refusal to submit to a lawful test.

Shortly after the arrest, Donald Trump addressed the accident while speaking to reporters after arriving in Miami. “I feel so badly,” he said at the time, adding that Woods “got some difficulty.” He added, “There was an accident, and that’s all I know.” The President went on to call the golfing champion a “very close friend of mine,” saying that “he’s an amazing person, amazing man.”

Notably, Trump and Woods also share a connection as the golfer is currently dating Vanessa Trump, the former wife of Donald Trump Jr.
