A release date change for Avengers: Doomsday is reportedly being discussed. A new industry report indicates that Marvel Studios may be reconsidering its current December 18, 2026, schedule. The reported development comes amid concerns over competition and IMAX screen availability.
‘Dunesday could be over’ according to latest Avengers: Doomsday rumor
The planned box office clash between Avengers: Doomsday and Dune 3 could be avoided. This is because new reports suggest a possible shift in the Marvel film’s release strategy. The two movies are currently set to open on the same date, creating competition for premium screens and audience attention during the holiday window.
Speaking in his recent YouTube video, industry insider John Campea discussed ongoing conversations within the industry about a potential change. He pointed to the recent move by Jumanji 4. It vacated its earlier December release slot and shifted to a later date, opening up a new opportunity.
Campea noted, “Dune 3 was getting all the IMAX screens. Avengers: Doomsday was not going to get any IMAX screens. Dune 3 secured a three-week exclusive run on IMAX. So, in my best Soup Nazi voice, no IMAX for you when it comes to Avengers: Doomsday.”
However, with the earlier December slot now open, the industry insider pointed to a recent speculation that Marvel could adjust its plans. Campea stated, “Maybe perhaps Avengers Doomsday may move off the December 18th date and move ahead a week to get to come out a week earlier, and for one week get those delicious IMAX. Then it would have a week to it all to itself before Dune 3 takes them over on December 18th.”
Moreover, John Campea added that he reached out to industry contacts for confirmation, saying, “I send out these feelers all the time.” According to the response he received, “the very non-committal discussions have taken place.” This, he clarified, does not confirm a change but indicates the idea has been considered.
Campea stated, “Bottom line is we could see Avengers Doomsday moving off that December 18th date with Dune 3 and moving up a week.”
However, Marvel has yet to confirm these release date change rumors. Thus, at present, Avengers: Doomsday remains scheduled for December 18, 2026.
