Leonardo DiCaprio & Jennifer Lawrence’s Thriller Adds GoodFellas Star To Cast

Martin Scorsese has reportedly added another familiar face to his upcoming film. Welker White, who appeared in several of the director’s past projects, is the latest name to join the cast of What Happens at Night at Apple.

According to Deadline, Welker White reunites with Scorsese for What Happens at Night after previous collaborations on GoodFellas, The Wolf of Wall Street, The Irishman, and Killers of the Flower Moon. Production on the psychological thriller is reportedly underway in Prague, with plans to move to New York later in the shoot.

Studio executives have not revealed which character White will play in the film. She joins a cast led by Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence that already includes Mads Mikkelsen, Patricia Clarkson, and Jared Harris.

Welker White brings decades of screen experience to What Happens at Night. Beyond her work with Scorsese, she appeared in Dead Poets Society, Bad Education, This Is My Life, and The Forty-Year-Old Version. She also has a role in Jonah Hill’s upcoming Apple film Outcome, starring Keanu Reeves.

What Happens at Night adapts Peter Cameron’s 2020 novel about an American couple who travel to a snowy European town to adopt a baby. The source material follows the unnamed pair as they check into a nearly empty hotel and encounter mysterious locals. Mikkelsen could play a character called Brother Emmanuel, likely the faith healer from the book. Based on the novel, Clarkson may take on the role of a singer, while Harris could be seen as a businessman whom the couple meets during their stay.

Cameras reportedly started rolling in February in Prague. The production schedule points to a 2027 release, though Apple has not announced an official date. Scorsese directs and produces through his Sikelia Productions banner. Daniel Lupi, Lawrence, and DiCaprio also produce. Apple Studios backs the project in partnership with StudioCanal, which acquired the book rights in 2023. The film is Scorsese’s second collaboration with Apple following Killers of the Flower Moon.
