Kiki Shepard has died at the age of 74 after suffering a massive heart attack, according to reports from TMZ that cited her representative. It was a sudden loss. Shepard had become a familiar face to millions through Showtime at the Apollo.

However, Kiki Shepard’s career in entertainment began long before the Apollo. Long before the spotlight most people remember, she started out as a professional dancer in the early 1970s, traveling across the world, stage to stage.

She also worked with the D.C. Repertory Dance Company, where she initially started to grow. Following this, she got a role on Showtime at the Apollo, a longstanding part of her career.

She introduced new talent to the world through her role on the show. Shepard co-hosted the iconic series from 1987 to 2002. It was a long and memorable run, during which she worked alongside names like Sinbad and later Steve Harvey.

Week after week, she helped bring performers to the legendary Apollo Theater in Harlem. However, her career did not stop there. She also worked as an actress, appearing in several other popular television series. She worked on A Different World, Baywatch, and NYPD Blue. Shepard also appeared in the Blackjack Christmas movie.

She balanced acting while continuing her hosting duties. Later on, she appeared as herself on Everybody Hates Chris and also had a role in Grey’s Anatomy. While often smaller roles, her appearances on the shows were impactful.

Over the years, Shepard also made her mark on Broadway. She appeared in productions like Bubbling Brown Sugar, Reggae, Your Arms Too Short to Box With God, and Porgy and Bess.

From television to movies to theater, Kiki Shepard built a long and respected career in the entertainment industry.
