WR Christian Kirk Agrees To Move to 49ers With $6M Deal — Report

The San Francisco 49ers have reportedly made a significant move to bolster their wide receiver corps, signing veteran wide receiver Christian Kirk to a one-year deal worth $6 million. The strategic move adds depth and experience to their receiving corps, particularly with the potential departure of Jauan Jennings and George Kittle’s injury.

The San Francisco 49ers are reportedly welcoming Christian Kirk, signing a one-year, $6 million deal, according to sources cited by NFL reporter Jordan Schultz, who initially broke the news.

As revealed to ESPN on Monday, the San Francisco 49ers have signed veteran wide receiver, marking their second significant addition to the wide receiver corps in a week. The move comes on the heels of their high-profile signing of Mike Evans to a three-year, $42.5 million contract.

Kirk, 29, brings eight years of NFL experience, having played for the Arizona Cardinals, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Houston Texans. His best season came in 2022 with the Jaguars, recording 84 receptions for 1,108 yards and eight touchdowns.

For those unaware, Evans and Kirk are filling the gaps left by departing players like Jauan Jennings, Brandon Aiyuk, Kendrick Bourne, and Skyy Moore, who have either moved on or are about to.

Christian Kirk is coming off a season with the Houston Texans, where he caught 28 passes for 239 yards and one touchdown, missing four games due to hamstring injuries. He also impressed in the playoffs, grabbing 8 catches for 144 yards against the Pittsburgh Steelers in an AFC wild-card win, setting a Texans postseason franchise record.

In San Francisco, Kirk is expected to play inside as a slot receiver, complementing Mike Evans at the “X” and Ricky Pearsall at the “Z”. The 29-year-old could also return kicks or punts, a role vacated by Skyy Moore’s departure.

A second-round pick in 2018, Christian Kirk brings 432 catches, 5,415 yards, and 30 touchdowns to the 49ers over eight seasons.
