Ip Man 4: The Finale is leaving Netflix next month
Ip Man 4: The Finale, starring Donnie Yen and Scott Adkins, both of whom also appear in John Wick 4, is reportedly leaving Netflix on April 5, 2026 (via What’s on Netflix).
The action feature premiered in theaters in China, Australia, and New Zealand on December 20, 2019, before getting a limited theatrical release in the United States via Well Go USA on December 25. Following its release, it grossed an estimated $176 million globally.
The film serves as the fourth installment of the Ip Man franchise, following 2008’s Ip Man, Ip Man 2 in 2010, and Ip Man 3 in 2015. Like the previous movies, it is based on the life of the Wing Chun master of the same name, also known as Yip Man. Having mastered the martial art at 20, he went on to train many students, one of whom was the renowned martial artist and actor Bruce Lee.
The movie’s story follows the titular protagonist, who, along with his son Ip Ching, travels to the USA to look for new schooling opportunities for his son, who has been expelled from his previous school after fighting back against a bully. Following his arrival, Ip encounters significant racial discrimination and difficulties while trying to enroll his son in an American school. Further complicating matters is his throat cancer diagnosis, caused by years of chronic smoking.
Ip Man 4: The Finale has done quite well on review aggregator websites. On Rotten Tomatoes, the film holds a fresh 85% critical score and a 95% “verified hot” audience score. Meanwhile, Metacritic has given it a Metascore of 62 and a user score of 6.6 — both pointing to “generally favorable” reception.
