Alexander Skarsgård Made Nicole Kidman Say ‘Yikes’ Before On-Screen Kiss

Nicole Kidman recently shared a funny behind-the-scenes moment involving co-star Alexander Skarsgård. The story goes back to their time filming Big Little Lies, where an unexpected lunch choice almost ruined a kissing scene.

Alexander Skarsgård’s antics before kissing scene made Nicole Kidman say “yikes”

Nicole Kidman revealed that a simple sandwich had once made filming a romantic moment with Alexander Skarsgård a lot less appealing. During an appearance on the Las Culturistas podcast hosted by Matt Rogers and Bowen Yang, the Oscar-winning actress spoke openly about something she simply cannot tolerate while acting, bad breath. She said,  “I cannot stand bad breath. This is a deal-breaker for me. Yikes, I’m out,” Kidman explained that even the most attractive co-star would not get a pass if their breath smelled unpleasant.

That rule came into play during filming for Big Little Lies. Kidman remembered that Skarsgård once ate a falafel sandwich right before they had to shoot a romantic scene together. The actress quickly stepped in and joked about the timing. She recalled telling him, “No, no, no, Alex. I’m meant to be into you and kissing you — put away the falafel now.” Kidman even added another playful warning: “No more falafel. Not before you kiss, not before you make love.”

Even with that uncomfortable and somewhat funny behind-the-scenes moment, both actors still brought fire to their roles in the HBO hit Big Little Lies. Nicole Kidman played Celeste Wright, while Alexander Skarsgård took on the role of her husband, Perry Wright. Both Kidman and Skarsgård ended up winning Primetime Emmy Awards for their work, helping turn the series into one of HBO’s most talked-about dramas.

Both actors have built strong and lasting careers in Hollywood. Nicole Kidman won an Academy Award for her performance in The Hours and later starred in major films such as Moulin Rouge! and Aquaman. Alexander Skarsgård first grabbed attention with the hit series True Blood. He then moved into big-screen roles, appearing in movies like The Northman and Godzilla vs. Kong.
