Following months of speculation, Travis Kelce has finally announced his return to the Chiefs. The star tight end has now revealed that he had never considered retiring this year and had always had his eyes on winning one more Super Bowl.
Travis Kelce talks about his return to Chiefs
In the March 11 episode of the New Heights podcast, Travis Kelce opened up about his decision to stay with the Kansas City Chiefs. When his brother and co-host Jason Kelce asked when he made up his mind about returning for his 14th season with the franchise, the tight end replied, “About midway through the season.”
The response left Jason in stitches, who bafflingly asked, “So what were you waiting on then?” His younger brother then explained, “You know, I was taking Jason Kelce’s advice. I was taking the advice to take a step back.”
The Chiefs star added, “You gotta let the emotions clear, and you gotta have a clear head. I’ve made decisions based off of emotions and, you know, they haven’t always played out the right way. So, I think taking a step back, letting the emotions settle down, the frustrations from the season.”
In the 2025 NFL season, the Kansas City Chiefs missed the playoffs for the first time since 2014. The disappointing conclusion has left Travis Kelce more determined to ace another Super Bowl.
The last time the Chiefs had won the Super Bowl was in the 2024 season. Sharing his desire to win again, Kelce said, “Of course I want to come back. Of course, I don’t want to end my career not making the playoffs and not having one of the best years… It still felt like I was hungry enough to get back at it.”
The tight end added, “Obviously, there’s still a little bit of that grit and that emotion. I f***ing hated the way that s*** ended last year. I wanna make it right.” The future Hall of Famer concluded, declaring, “I wanna get another chance at another f***ing Super Bowl.”
