Doja Cat Admits To Using Timothee Chalamet’s ‘Goof Up as Leverage’

Doja Cat is reconsidering her response to the recent controversy surrounding Timothee Chalamet and his remarks about ballet and opera. The rapper addressed the situation on TikTok on March 10 after her earlier reaction to Chalamet’s comments spread widely across social media. In a new video posted the following day, she acknowledged that her initial response was quick and unconsidered.

Doja Cat backtracks on Timothee Chalamet’s criticism over opera and ballet comments

In a recent video on TikTok, Doja Cat clarified her stance on her previous criticism of Timothee Chalamet’s comment on ballet and opera. “I’m going to come out and say that I know nothing about opera. I know nothing about ballet,” she said candidly. “I’ve never been to a ballet. I’ve never seen an opera.”

The admission marked a sharp shift from the tone of the video she had posted the day before. “I took it upon myself yesterday to kind of give it to the man because there is a culture based around outrage and things like that, and people want to feel like they’re part of something. It’s a need to connect, whether good or bad.”

In her earlier, now-deleted TikTok, Doja criticized Chalamet while referencing the long history of the classical art forms. “Opera is 400 years old. Ballet is 500 years old,” she said in the clip. She then referenced the “Marty Supreme” star directly, expressing disbelief that he suggested audiences no longer care about those traditions.

In her follow-up TikTok, the “Paint the Town Red” artist explained that she reacted impulsively after seeing several videos about the controversy. “There’s a culture based around outrage,” she said, noting that people often feel drawn to conversations where they can publicly take a stance.

“What I was doing yesterday was virtue signaling,” she admitted. “I wanted to connect,” Doja said, and recognized that the controversy surrounding Chalamet provided an easy opportunity to draw attention online. “It’s a modern way to get clicks, likes and approval,” the singer said, explaining that she had not fully considered why she chose to weigh in at the time.

Doja acknowledged that she tried to sound sincere but later realized the response was misguided. “I think I just wanted a hug,” she said in the video. “I wanted to feel like I was part of something bigger than myself.” According to Doja, the positive reactions she received from some viewers ultimately made her uncomfortable. “I wanted to look like a hero,” she admitted.
