President Donald Trump used the speech to GOP House members on Monday, March 9, 2026, during the annual House Republicans retreat at Trump National Doral in Florida to highlight some of his achievements in his second tenure.
Trump claimed that he brought down prescription drug prices significantly with his controversial tariffs and deals. He also urged GOP representatives to codify his Most Favored Nation executive order into law.
“No other president can do some of this s*** I’m doing. No other president,” Trump said in his speech to scattered applause (via PEOPLE). He went on to claim that prescription drug prices were “the single biggest issue” affecting Americans. Trump took a more aggressive approach during his second tenure as President towards prescription drug prices, and, using the controversial tariffs, managed to bring the prices down.
He described how he convinced French President Emmanuel Macron to reduce prices by threatening to put a 100% tariff on all wines and champagnes imported into the U.S. He said, “I said, ‘I’ve already got the legislation, it’s right in front of my desk. I’m going to sign it, Emmanuel!'”
“I don’t want to brag,” Trump added after claiming that drug costs decreased up to 90% for Americans.
Donald Trump’s tariffs have remained a controversial topic. The Supreme Court recently struck down the president’s tariffs in a 6-3 ruling in February. Trump called this ruling a “terrible decision for the people.”
